Our Story
It was
fate that two brothers, Scott and Mike
McKenna, were to end up in the Pool
Business. Their careers really begun in
High School where they were caught digging a
pool in the football field. Well, actually
the upper field, overlooking the football
field. With a bunch of buddies, at San
Marino High School, Scott and Mike hand dug
an entire swimming pool. Working in shifts,
at night only, hopping in and out of the
ever-larger hole, they shoveled. The next
step was to lay the steel, which they did.
Remember, we’re talking about High School
students here.
Finally, it was time for cement. The daring
teenagers were actually mixing the cement
one moonless night, when the Police
arrived. Here’s the conversation that took
place:
Police:
“Boys, what do you think you are doing?”
Scott:
“Building a pool.”
Police: “Why
are you building a pool?”
Mike:
“Because it’s hot.”
Police: “Do
you have a permit to build a pool?”
Scott:
“Uhhhh. No.”
Police: “Are
you General Contractors that builds pools?”
Mike:
“Uhhhh. No.”
Police: “Do
you have permission from the High School to
build a pool?”
Scott:
“Uhhhh. No.”
Police:
“Okay, that’s it. Everybody out of the
pool.”
What
began as a Senior Prank ended as a passion.
For those of you who are curious, the boys
were not arrested. They did, however, have
to fill in the hole and replant the grass.
It
wasn’t too many years later, that Scott and
Mike created their own Pool Building
business called Trimac Pools. After their
High School experience, they were very
careful to always pull permits. A few years
after that, they purchased Gardner Pool
Plastering and moved into remodeling rather
than building. They began with 20
employees, 1 plaster crew and a few trucks.
Now, the empire includes over 100 employees,
three branches and over 30 vehicles.
